The creation of these supremely comfortable and supportive beds all comes down to the time honoured skills used to create Relyon mattresses, in combination with high quality materials.
It all starts with springs. Relyon manufacture thousands of springs from high tensile steel. Individual springs are then sewn into hard wearing fabric pockets. These pocketed springs are then hand-nested into a honeycomb pattern before being hand-centre tied to create the core of the mattress. Pocketed springs are the key to providing you support.
The finest natural fillings are used to create Relyons sumptuous feel and supportive foundation. Cashmere and horse hair layers provide a supportive foundation due to their natural resilience. Following this, sumptuous layers of hand tease merino wool, lambswool and mohair are used to give the surface a soft feel. Natural fillings are chosen for their temperature regulating qualities. Air between the natural insulating fibres encourages body water evaporation as well as coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter.
The mattress is covered with an anti-allergenic layer and then topped off with high quality fabrics. Highly trained craftsmen then sew around the mattress edges to seal the top and bottom panels to the borders. Next, the mattress is hand-tufted. This is a traditional skill that is used to keep all of the hand-teased loose fillings in place providing the perfect finish for the mattress. Using special upholstery needles, skilled craftsman then side stitch the mattress by hand. This is an important part in ensuring that the mattress edges provide an extended supportive sleeping area, and on average takes around half a day per mattress.
